Balete Park & Millennium Tree
Our next destination was the so-called millenium Tree . This 600 year old Balete tree is a popular tourist attraction in Maria Aurora , Aurora Province. It was a hot afternoon and it was the kind of the day were kids play instead of sleeping. This large Balete tree serves as a perfect place providing shade for everyone .At first, I was really hesitant to get inside because many people believe that Balete trees are dwelling places for supernatural beings like aswang or Kapre. There are also superstitious beliefs that bringing in balete as decorative plants inside the house invite ghosts.
The century old Balete tree in Aurora stands in a private lot and is approximately 60 meters tall and its diameter are huge enough for people to pass through. What’s interesting about this huge balete tree is that its roots have grown above ground which have formed caves in different sections of the trunk .
Kids invited us to get inside the tree. I still can remember how Robbie and Cai climbed up high when we were inside. I enjoyed watching them with those kids . The balete tree in Aurora province is the largest Balete tree in Asia-Pacific. I wanted to climb too however I was scared to go down after climbing the tree. I also felt that climbing inside is harder than it looks. Next time , I will come back and try to climb the same tree again.
Thank you for the great experience Balete Park. I am very much aware that sometimes I am clumsy . I must learn to appreciate the beauty of nature more. So the next time I come back , I will hug that tree , try to learn to grab its bark , wrap my arms around its base and try to climb up and down . Promise, I will give it a shot.
Thank you Kuya June for driving us around.
