Sinulog festival happens every third week of January in Cebu City to commemorate the Cebuanos pagan origin. The festival’s highlight is a street parade with performers wearing bright colored costumes dancing and performing to the rhythm of drums and it is celebrated to honor the Santo Nino.
Be part of the grandest event in the Philippines. I bet this year, the city government has a lot of wonderful activities lined up prior to the festival highlight.
1. You have to be there early.
The Saturday of the Sinulog Weekend is your chance to walk around the city center, the Shrine and other famous landmarks of the city. There are festivities going on everywhere so you can take in the sights and sounds of music on the streets. Sunday of the Sinulog festival gets terribly crowded. You cant commute using cabs, unless it’s going out of the city (to Mactan Island or the suburbs), it’s impossible to drive for yourself, and it’s impossible to find a parking slot.
2. Capture the moments.
Shoot candid moments. You can literally shoot photos everywhere and share your experiences with friends.
3. Where to stay?
Tabo-an Market is the name. It is a well known public market that sells danggit, dried fish and mangoes and a lot of interesting Cebu stuff.
5. Larsian BBQ
Complete your holiday by dining at Larsian BBQ which is just a few blocks away from the market and near Fuente Osmena. If you never heard of Larsian, then you probably haven’t been to Cebu yet. Larsian has a wide selection of BBQ’s to choose from. Larsian is a food experience one must not miss when visiting Cebu!
6. Be alert
This is another moment when thieves and pickpockets strike the most. Always be very wary of the people around you, and more importantly, your personal belongings. Always be alert.
Get yourself lost in the sea of random angles. Go to the Baseline Area and Mango Avenue where the party crowd ignites.
Now you have more reasons to enjoy Cebu and the Sinulog Festival. So don’t resist, do it. Trust me, Sinulog would never disappoint you- especially for the adventurous ones.
