LEGAZPI CITY SPEND LESS TRAVEL MORE
Here’s another great weekend destination . Legazpi.
Legazpi is the capital of the province of Albay and also considered one of the first class cities in the Philippines.
The largest city in the Bicol region and located in between the two islands of Catanduanes and Masbate.
Again We owe it to the World famous and the Bicol’s top tourist destination. Mayon volcano, the most active and the world’s perfectly formed volcano. This marvelous landscape has had almost 50 uninterrupted erruptions recorded in history. The longest erruption happened on the 23rd of June , year 1897 which lasted for seven days.
And when it comes to transportation, it’s predominantly public vehicle . Most public transport like tricycles, taxis and vans are available to take you around the city.
Now let’s hop on the bus. A popular destination in Legazpi is the Cagsawa ruins, where you can see the old Cagsawa church bell . It’s the only part that was not burried during the Mount Mayon erruption. And after that, you can have a photo session with the breathtaking Mayon Volcano. Don’t leave Legazpi without the Mount Mayon photo.
And since our goal is to spend less and travel more, I strongly suggest you meet and greet the locals. Ask for a great tips as to where you can find the cheapest but a decent place to stay. I tell you , there are a lot of pension houses and cheap travelers Inn in town.
If you want to explore the city by night . You can try to check out the Embarcadero at the harbor area of the city. It offers a great selection of restaurants and bars. You can also try to have a dinner at the small Talk Cafe. Try to impress the crowd with your golden voice at Howlin at the moon for a Karaoke challenge. It’s a great place for good time , drinks and music. Or you can also watch the full moon to make it more romantic .Whoa! that didn’t make a sense.
By exploring the city , you will understand how laidback the city is . Locals are very friendly. I also recommend to always try to haggle for tricycle fare when you make your way through the city or if you have plans to explore and discover the entire place.
Another interesting stuff about the city is the Guinobatan longganisa with binotong ( I was told it’s a rice cooked in a coconut milk wrapped in a banana leaf). A must try is eating a real bicol express . I tell you , its completely a different Bicol express when you are in Bicol.
Don’t leave Legazpi without your Pasalubong list . Buy a Legazpi T-shirt, Pili, native products like abaca bags and lamps from souvenir shops . Meanwhile, Lignon Hill as you go on your way down , they sell native rice cakes and fresh buko juice.
Just a headsup , I was told when you ride a tricycle , you better choose the tourist-friendly tricycles ( green and yellow three wheeled motorized vehicle) ones to take you around.
Generally , to me , it’s a home to lush green landscapes and truly a weekend adventure to remember , a very laidback lifestyle and a warm climate which make it a very popular holiday destination.
Major Philippine commercial planes in the Philippines fly to Legazpi from Manila.
That’s all for now !
