Pampanga – the culinary capital in the Philippines
If you are travelling to the Philippines and are looking for one of the best places to try out delectable dishes, then you simply must visit Pampanga.
This is undeniably one of the best destinations to check out and while you have the plan to visit Pampanga province, I encourage you to ride Philtranco Bus Lines and experience Pampanga’s various flavours. Philtranco, the oldest bus company in the country now offers the Manila-Pampanga route.
I was part of the Media event hosted by Philtranco and my experience was extraordinary. It is both informative as well as pleasurable, and we were able to go through various stops in Pampanga and got to experience everything and anything, particularly, what is food related in this province.
One of the most renowned stops is the one at Aling Laring. Also known as the Tamales Queen, this is where you just have to try out Pampanga’s best-known delicacy, that is, the tamales. Here you will not only get to see how tamales are made but best of all, taste them.
Made from rice flour and then topped with ham, chicken and hard-boiled eggs, this dish is simply unique and you just cannot visit Pampanga without trying it.
There is also 25 Seeds, a popular restaurant which is based in a 1920’s mansion, which offers a vast range of Filipino dishes.
25 Seeds is well known here and it definitely deserves a visit despite the fact that it is a relatively new restaurant when compared to most of the other ones in this province. Some of the dishes served here include Okoy, Pako Salad, and Tinape Babi.
This unique restaurant, which spreads over two storeys of this ancestral house is run by celebrity chef, Sau del Rosario.
So you may rest assured that the menu here is simply one to die for! Besides various dishes, you may also wish to try out the version of the tamales served here, which is also really good.
You will most likely also enjoy stopping at Susie’s Cuisine where you can do some shopping so as to take Pampangan treats back home.
Another important stop on our Philtranco Pampanga food tour is Aling Lusing’s Sisig.
This is a popular chef who cooks in this home-grown restaurant, and there is no need to state that the food served here is simply exquisite too. In fact, she is also known as the Sisig Queen as this is where this highly popular dish was invented back in 1974.
No wonder this place is generally full of people. This place was even acknowledged by the Philippine Department of Tourism, and it has managed to make Angeles City become known as the Sisig Capital of the Philippines.
There are various other highly regarded restaurants here, which are worth a visit. These include Chicharong Bulaklak, Bulalo and Ensalada.
If you are looking forward to a popular dessert in Pampanga, then you will be happy to visit Kabigting so as to try out the Halo-Halo. This dessert consists of three main ingredients, namely, Pastillas, Beans and Corn. It is a simple dessert but so creamy and sweet that it will simply tantalize your taste buds.
This tour organized by Philtranco also includes stops at key places in Pampanga, including, the Center for Kapampangan Studies, the Museum of Philippine Social History, San Guillermo Church, JB Betis Woodcraft and Betis Church.
So, you will not only be experiencing some of the best culinary locations in Pampanga but also some historical, cultural and interesting locations in this unique province.
