About a week ago, I was able to personally experience the best of Puzzle Mansion which is today’s popular tourist attraction inTagaytay. It is the home of the biggest world class collection of puzzles boasting with a complete amenities added with bed and breakfast privileges.
GINA GIL-LACUNA is the current Guinness World Record Holder for ‘The World’s Largest Collection of Jigsaw Puzzles in Any Size, Shape, or Form’. It was all started as a hobby and her attachment with puzzles fired up during her exploration to various countries around the world. She is a genuine travel nutcase who was amazed by several collection of puzzle pieces she chanced upon that she has been continuously purchasing all pieces of puzzles from different museums, stores, boutiques, online and other souvenir shops around the globe.
I am so impressed with her collection of almost a thousand framed puzzles and still growing everyday. Some of which can be seen all over the place, a fascinating decorations in a remote place of Tagaytay City. Puzzle Mansion was originally constructed for her family and built as a holiday home or holiday apartment for her relatives until she decided to share it with the public the ultimate joy of arts and nature.
Some puzzle pieces are still in boxes to be put together for sale encouraging other puzzle hobbyists to engage with the activity of solving puzzles for relaxation, home decorative purposes or for family bonding for everyone to enjoy.
PHOTO ABOVE: INTRODUCING PUZZLE TO KIDS -Puzzles enhance problem solving techniques, since every single puzzle has a different way to solve it. Your child will think of the various methods to solve a particular puzzle. This boosts a child’s ability to think and reason to solve a puzzle. See? I was enjoying the puzzle pieces with my new friend.
To gain access to the show room of more than 1,000 framed puzzles, one must pay an entrance fee. A guide will then be around to show you each puzzle collections with their own labels. Our group were so lucky enough to have the chance to meet the Guinness Record Holder herself and gave us some inspiring messages, some words of wisdom and encouragement with a bit of background of the origins, the humble beginnings and relatively various reasons on how she started collecting puzzles to put together, her dreams and future projects.
Her puzzle collections are up for grabs and boast from flat puzzle pieces to 3D to 4D, from puzzle converted photographs to wooden puzzle pieces, from the famous artists in the history including Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Renoir, Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Degas, Botticelli, to politicians and celebrities. Name it she has everything. Now if you have never heard of these artists before, Gina Gil-Lacuna will tour you around her museum and will take you to some of the best artworks and tell you a bit of an information about her masterpieces.
Lacuna also looks at puzzles not just as a pleasure, but a meaningful activity with remedial and healing potentials as she hopes to work with chemo patients. Working on puzzles takes the pain away. One interesting information I learned during our interview was the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease because solving puzzles intensify our memory.
GINA GIL-LACUNA is currently working on her biggest puzzle in the world which she intends to complete on July 31,2013. Can you imagine yourself solving a 32,000 pieces of puzzle?
