My city tour would not be complete if i miss a century old Dipolog Cathedral. So of course, I had to quickly grab my camera and take a few shots. I really felt I was in Rome. The entire cathedral has a touch of modern architecture however when you scrutinize the backdoor, the ceiling, the altar and some interiors, There are still the same antique pieces inside. Looking at these photos will certainly take you back to the spanish times. I guess , there are a lot of good memories stored in this church.
The cathedral in Dipolog is just a short walking distance from the city hall of Dipolog. The cathedral used to be a chapel and it was reconstructed and expanded in 1896.It was restored in the 70’s.
The original church used to have a bell tower however due to dilapidation it was later removed .
As you walk towards the altar you will notice an impressive and unique ceiling (it has the four evangelists at the roof of the church). And the most noticeable aspect of the church is the main altar which was designed by Dr. Jose Rizal, The Philippine National hero during his exile in the city of Dapitan.
A closer look of the altar will reveal the Altar of virgin Mary and the Sacred heart of Jesus.
I was just really hoping that this Century Old cathedral should be preserved by the government and not to modernize its architecture.
It feels amazing to visit churches or a cathedrals that are designed in an old style or classical style. With their old style I must say they still look fantastic even after a hundred years.
So if you are looking for an IDEAL and interesting day adventure packed with splendid sights, visit Dipolog Cathedral.
